Risks and complications

The surgical surgery will be undertaken if the benefits expected prevail on the risks incurred. Although the surgeon uses all the precautions needed, there are risks and complications you should be aware of, as to make up your mind and come to a decision.

The general complications

They can be related to the anesthesia. Many medical complications can occur, a list of which cannot be exhaustive.

  • Blood loss resulting into a blood transfusion with risks of transmission of diseases
  • Cardiovascular pathologies (Stroke...)
  • Kidney disfunction, pneumopathy, urinary infection
  • Neurological lesion

Surgery related complications

  • Fracture
  • Knee stiffness
  • Prosthetic wearing, loosening
  • Knee stability problem
  • Knee infection that can occur many years later
  • Unequal length of the limbs
  • Luxation
  • Painful patella
  • Ligament lesions
  • Nerve lesions with risks of paralysis of certain muscles
  • Blood vessels lesions (arteries/veins)
  • Persisting pain
  • Algodystrophia
  • Phlebitis, pulmonar embolism

Severe medical problems can lenghten the hospitalization, worsen your health state, and in rare cases cause death.
